- Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium– “The place clearly cares for their animals” and the staff is friendly, plus you can fish there and keep the trout you catch……
CONNECTICUT
- Maritime Aquarium– Touch tiger sharks and sting rays in this cozy, yet entertaining aquarium…
- Mystic Aquarium– Beluga whales that like to interact with the audience are well worth the price…
- Beardsley Zoo– Great zoo for the families as there is a range of animals that will keep everyone interested…
- Seaquest Aquarium @ Trumbull– Feed animals, or snorkel with stingrays, this outfit offers lots of options…
- The Zoo At Forest Park– Technically in MA, but close to CT and worth a mention b/c it is dedicated to wildlife education and conservation and is very inexpensive to boot, kids will have lots of fun. Might be closed for colder seasons…
NEW JERSEY
- Bergen County Zoological Park– Nice and affordable zoo with a carousel and a large playground in the same park…
- Cohanzick Zoo– A surprisingly good selection of animals for a donation-based zoo… leave some money as they can definitely use it…
- Jenkinson’s Aquarium– “Intimate boardwalk aquarium” with penguins sharks and seals…
- Cape May County Park & Zoo– Donation based zoo in a large county park…
- Turtleback Zoo– A well maintained zoo that is a local favorite with touch tanks and giraffe feeding included… there’s also a cheetah who is friends with a labrador…
- Seaquest Aquarium @ Woodbridge– Get close to animals and feed them at this small and affordable “hidden gem inside a mall”…
- Six Flags Drive-Thru Adventure– At least 1 hour drive thru of a 350 acre park with 1200 animals, part of massive Six Flags Adventure Park…
- Adventure Aquarium– Huge aquarium with hippos and underwater shark tunnel… mermaids too…
- New Jersey SEA LIFE Aquarium– Inside the American Dream mall, not huge, but plenty to do… all other attractions near too…
- Space Farms Zoo & Museum– Zoo and 11 buildings with museums… people are saying “small enclosures for animals” though…
- Rizzo’s Wildlife World– Incredible indoor zoo space for animal encounters, but limited visiting hours and availability, so check their website…
UPSTATE NY
- Trailside Museums & Zoo @ Bear Mountain– A donation based zoo at Bear Mountain with some other interesting exhibits… huge, cheap pool, paddle boats and hiking trails near too for more summer fun…
- Trevor Zoo– A small local zoo and very, very affordable…
- Animal Adventure Park– A small family run zoo near Binghamton…
PENNSYLVANIA
- Elmwood Park Zoo– A small kid-friendly zoo with a ropes course near for extra entertainment…
- Claws’N’ Paws Wild Animal Park– A nice little kid-friendly zoo hidden in the woods in Poconos…
- Lehigh Valley Zoo– Great small zoo to take little kids to on the other side of Allentown…
